Venue Case Study - The ExCel Centre updates its Changing Places toilet

With more thanfour million visitors passing through its doors every year, ExCeL London isLondon’s largest event, exhibition and conference venue.
Situated withinLondon’s Royal Docks and easily accessible via the high-speed Elizabeth line,visitor experience, accessibility and feedback is something the venue pridesitself on.
After receivingfeedback in late 2022 about its Changing Places facility, the venue looked atways to further improve this as part of its continuous investment programme.
This began witha new room design plan which was created in January 2023 and sent over to theChanging Places team for their approval.
Once approved,enhancement works began in April 2023, and within couple of months, thefacility was able to re-open fully to visitors.
Keyimprovements included a new toilet facility and basing realignment to add a newshower, complete with a floor gully. Other new items installed included new IPSpanelling and wet room walling, grab rails, mirrors, coat hooks, bag shelf,hand drier, shower seat, alarm system, external room occupancy indicator and aprivacy screen. The room also has a RADAR operated lock.

As part of thecontinued investment in venue facilities and guest experience, ExCeL is alsoreviewing feasible locations for a second facility in the existing venue, plusanother facility for its forthcoming 25,000sqm expansion project, due forcompletion in October 2024.
