Changing Places at Olympic Games 2012

The Changing Places Consortium is extremely proud to announce that Changing Places toilets will be available at venues for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games.

The Consortium has been working with LOCOG, organisers of the games, to make sure that these are the most accessible games ever. By having Changing Places toilets available they have opened up this once in a lifetime experience to people with profound and multiple learning disabilities as well as other people who need the facilities and their families. The Changing Places campaign is sponsored by Total Hygiene.

Paralympian and disability rights campaigner Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson said “This is fantastic news! Changing Places will open up the games to people with profound and multiple disabilities. It is incredibly important for organisers to make the games as accessible as possible.”

As well as announcing Changing Places toilets, the organisers of the Olympic games in London have announced additional services for disabled people, including free blue badge parking spaces at all venues, accessible shuttle bus options, audio description, induction loops, spectator information in accessible formats, facilities for assistance dogs and a free mobility service to loan out manual wheelchairs and scooters. Organisers have also introduced a ticket system which they hope to ensure that disabled spectators have a great experience, offering a wide range of tickets to meet a variety of accessibility requirements at each venue.

Seb Coe, Chair of LOCOG said: ‘Our aim has always been to provide a wide range of services and ticket products for disabled people tailored to their needs, rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach. We want to ensure that disabled spectators have as great a Games experience as anyone else and we are committed to providing services and facilities that meet all accessibility requirements.’
