Each year in November, Purple Tuesday is held to celebrate and raise awareness of access and inclusion. This year, the event is on Tuesday, 4th November 2025.
The initiative was started in 2018 by Mike Adams with the aim of inspiring change within organisations, not only raising awareness and understanding, but also implementing solutions to improve accessibility for disabled customers. Each year, organisations that participate publicly commit to improving access and inclusion to ensure a better experience for the disabled community. Previous years have been a great success, and now events are held not only in the UK, but the USA, UAE, South East Asia, and Pakistan.
Mike Adams OBE, Founder of Purple Tuesday, said:
"As the founder and creator of Purple Tuesday, my mission is clear: I want organisations and communities to place accessibility and inclusion at the very core of everything they do. Accessibility isn’t just about improving the experience for disabled people - it’s about unlocking potential for everyone. When we design with inclusion in mind, we create environments that are more innovative, more welcoming, and more commercially successful. As I’ve said time and time again: accessibility is a win-win - for people, for business, and for society”.
The Changing Places Toilet Consortium fully supports this initiative. Similar to our campaign, Purple Tuesday recognises the importance of access and inclusion. Without Changing Places toilets, many disabled people, as well as their families and carers, cannot access their community, attend events, visit venues, and travel around the country. Implementing solutions to ensure good access and inclusion is not only the right thing to do, it also makes good business sense. There are 16.1 million disabled people in the UK, representing24% of the population, and the spending power of these people and their households in the UK is worth a whopping £249bn.
Purple Tuesday asks businesses to make one commitment to ensuring that their venue or services are more inclusive and accessible. This Purple Tuesday, we are calling on venues to install Changing Places toilets. You can help us by contacting venues that you would like to visit, but can’t because they do not have a toilet that meets your needs and telling them about Changing Places toilets. Free resources with information are available to download on our website – www.changing-places.orgor you can contact us by emailing changingplaces@pamis.org.uk.
